The firm is currently a solo practice of William L. Whitacre. From time to time I employ Interns, Paralegals, and other support personnel to assist in specific matters under my direct supervision. I prefer to get to know prospective clients before determining whether or not I can provide effective representation. I am open to reasonable communication via telephone, efax, or email, to find out what you want and need, whether I can assist, and whether or not we can work together. I engage in this preliminary communication at no cost to you, in order to determine whether or not I will be able to represent you, before undertaking any responsibility for you or your project.
I provide detailed information on my experience, credits, and general client base, and ask that you do the same. I am always interested in how someone came to the entertainment business. Next I like to discuss your goals for your film, or other project, and how my services could complement your goals. Adding an attorney to your team is an important step, but it does not automatically guarantee success. You will remain the most important person in meeting your specific goals.
I developed a practice in entertainment law in order to be around positive creative people. I like working with individuals who want solid business structures to support their creativity and who have, or want to have, a plan to effectively market their product in a manner which will have a chance to be commercially successful, and to return investors’ money if private investment is being sought.
While I provide a wide range of services to independent producers, independent filmmakers, musicians, singers, independent record labels and television producers I do not specialize in all aspects of the entertainment business. I routinely work with other attorneys in the entertainment industry when the need arises for special representation in areas such as major studio distribution, distributor financing (as opposed to private financing), and other areas in which it is helpful to have co-counsel with experience in a certain specialty.
In assisting independent producers in financing their films, I have been very successful in preparing investment packages as Private Placement Offerings, which are structured to be investor friendly in a high risk investment scenario. While I try, within the applicable legal restrictions, to assist clients with investors, all of my existing investor contacts are proprietary to clients, and I cannot promise to be able to bring investors to any given deal or project. After new investment packages are prepared, I support my clients by answering questions from, and meeting with, potential investors and their legal, accounting, and other business advisors to ensure compliance with applicable securities laws regulating investor suitability and compliance with restrictions on non registered Private Placement Offerings.
I prefer to have more than just a transactional or contract involvement with my clients, and enjoy assisting in the strategic development of long term goals in the entertainment business.
